AU Asks Jonathan, Others To Openly Declare Their Assets

Disturbed by the high rate of corruption, illegal transfers and loss of huge revenues by African countries (rich in resources), The African Union, AU, has demanded that President Goodluck Jonathan and other African Leaders to openly declare their assets and subject their wealth to public scrutiny. In a report on Illicit Financial Flows from Africa, compiled by an AU panel led by former South African President Thabo Mbeki, it shows that Africa loses an estimated $60billion (about N10.08trillion) annually through such transfers. The report was presented Sunday at a summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. More importantly, the report has stirred massive concerns in Nigeria, which is said to account for over $40.9billion (about N6.87trillion), or 68 per cent of the total figure. NLC Rejects Elections Postponement

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has warned government not to postpone the oncoming election, saying that it is not the solution to the nation’s insecurity. Bishop Oyedepo Dragged To Court For Breach Of Contract

The founder of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, is being sued by a stock brokerage firm, Valueline Securities and Investment Limited over alleged breach of agreement on a N9bn worth of investment. The firm, along with its Managing Director, Samuel Enyinnaya, has instituted a legal action before a Federal High Court in Lagos. According to Punch report, the firm is seeking an order of the court compelling Oyedepo and others to pay them the sum of N1.86bn jointly and severally as professional fees and damages. Other defendants in the suit are Oyedepo’s wife, Abiola; his children and blood relatives, Priscillia, Jesutobi, Makinde and Isaac. Others include, World Mission Agency Inc, which is the overall ruling organ of the Winners’ Chapel; Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State; and the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
