Update: Police arrest 20-year-old woman for k!lling her grandmother with wooden chair in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Muktar Hassan, for allegedly k!lling her 97-year-old grandmother in Daura Local Government Area of the state.   The spokesperson for the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, June 18, 2026 said an argument had broken out between the suspect and her paternal grandmother.  According to the PPRO, during the altercation, the suspect allegedly struck the elderly woman on the head with a wooden chair.    The victim was found unconscious in a pool of blood when police operatives responded to a distress report by the suspect’s father.    She was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but was later confirmed d3ad by the attending doctor.    DSP Sadiq added that the suspect was arrested during the investigation and confessed to the act.   “The Katsina State Police Command has succeeded in arresting one Aisha Muktar Hassan, f, aged 20, suspe...

A coalition of civil society organisations, labour activists, youth groups, community associations, and concerned Nigerians have declared June 12, Nigeria’s Democracy Day, a day of nationwide protest and mass action against worsening insecurity, widespread hunger, and deepening economic hardship across the country.   The coalition, which includes prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), musician and activist Falz (Folarin Falana), the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), the Joint Action Front (JAF), the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC), and several other groups, accused the Federal Government of failing to address the security and economic challenges confronting millions of Nigerians. A senior Russian general was killed in a car bombing after his son may have accidentally given away his location by posting a picture of the vehicle's licence plate on social media, according to reports. The car believed to belong to Lieutenant General Davydov was set on fire in Moscow on Tuesday, June 9, killing the 57-year-old Putin ally instantly. But his whereabouts may have been revealed due to a careless mistake by his son, who is a Russian military cadet. Davydov was reportedly pulled from the burning wreckage of a BMW X3 and pronounced dead at the scene of the massive blast. His identity has not yet been officially confirmed. 12 k!lled, nine injured in mass sh00ting in South Africa

  Twelve people have been k!lled and nine others wounded following a mass sho0ting at Jumpers Informal Settlement in Cleveland, Johannesburg.   It is reported that at about 11:10pm on Tuesday night, police responded to a sho0ting incident at the informal settlement. Upon arrival,  they found numerous people with multiple gunsh0t wounds.   Eight men and three women were declared de@d at the scene. One other victim, a man, later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.   At least nine other people were transported to various hospitals for treatment.   It is alleged more than 10 heavily armed men were dropped off by a white Toyota Quantum just after 8pm.   A 14-year-old student of Police Secondary School, Minna, identified as Yahaya Ibrahim Tafida, has reportedly been k!lled by lightning in Lapai, the headquarters of Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.   A resident of Lapai, Mohammed Musa, told Daily Trust that the incident occurred around 6pm on Monday, June 8, 2026 while the victim and his friends were playing football at the Government Girls’ Day Secondary School football field.   He said the teenager took shelter under a tree when rain accompanied by a strong windstorm began. “When the rain and windstorm started, they could not return home, so they hid under a tree. Suddenly, lightning struck, and the boy died on the spot,” he said.   Residents said the tragic incident threw the community into mourning.

South African mother accused of poisoning and k!lling her two children

A 27-year-old South African woman, briefly appeared in court on charges of m8rdering her two young children after reportedly administering a poisonous substance to them at their family home.   Ntanganedzeni Siphugu made a brief appearance before the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, where she has been charged with two counts of murder following the d3aths of her children, aged six and nine.   According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mashudu Malabi, the alleged incident occurred on June 1, 2026, at Madabani Village in Limpopo.   Malabi said prosecutors allege that Siphugu gave the two children a poisonous substance, resulting in both children becoming seriously ill.     She said the children fell ill the day after the alleged poisoning.    One of the children was rushed to a nearby clinic for medical treatment but was certified d3ad upon arrival.   Family members later returned home from the clinic only to disc...

  N36M fraud: Court reserves ruling on Blessing CEO’s bail application Justice D.I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, has reserved ruling on the bail application filed by popular social media influencer and relationship therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, better known as Blessing CEO.   The ruling was deferred till Tuesday, June 9, 2026.   Blessing CEO is facing a two-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing to the tune of N36 million.   She was arraigned on May 15, 2026, over allegations that she obtained the sum from a petitioner under false pretence of leasing a property in Lekki, Lagos.   The matter was adjourned to June 5 for hearing of her bail application, but after arguments from both the prosecution and defence, Justice Dipeolu reserved ruling for next Tuesday.
