Socialite, Adunni Bankole, dies on daughter’s wedding day

The step-mother of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, Mrs. Adunni Bankole, is dead.
Our correspondent gathered that she died of a heart-related illness. She reportedly fell into a coma for five days.
She was said to have been ill for over a month, and had been under medical attention.
Adunni, who was one of the wives of the astute businessman and politician, Chief Alani Bankole, reportedly died in her mother’s house in Mende area of Maryland in Lagos on Saturday at 6:05am.
She died exactly 85 days to her 56th birthday (March 29).
Adunni, who was the Iyalode of Gbagura, was expected to give her second daughter, Mopelola, out in marriage on the day she died.
She only witnessed the introduction ceremony.
However, the wedding ceremony held.
The news of her demise was not made known to families and guests who had gathered to witness the ceremony.
The husband of the deceased could not wait till the end of the programme.
Adunni who was a socialite and a businesswoman had once operated a household care product store, Sublime Group, at Opebi, Ikeja in Lagos, before relocating it to Ogba Retail market.
Sources said this was not the first time she fell into coma. She was said to have suffered the same fate for four days in September 2011, but she was revived at the intensive care unit of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
Her marriage to Bankole, who’s the Asipa of Egbaland was blessed with four children   —Toyin, Mopelola, Layiwola jnr, and Adesola.
She is survived by her 79 year-old mother.
The late Adunni was said to have moved to her Ikorodu home not too long ago, having allegedly parted ways with her husband.
Efforts made to make her husband and Dimeji comment on her death proved abortive.
Dimeji did not acknowledge the text message sent to his telephone and did not pick our correspondent’s call made to him.
His father merely said, “I don’t want to make any comment” when contacted on the telephone.
